چکیده
Fresh groundwater reserves, being of vital importance for more than a billion people living in the coastal zone, are threatened by saltwater intrusion due to anthropogenic activities and climate change. High resolution three-dimensional (3D), variable-density (VD), flow salt transport (FT) numerical models increasingly used support water managers decision makers their strategic planning measures dealing with problem fresh shortages. However, these computer typically require long runtimes large memory usage, making them impractical use without parallelization. Here, we parallelize SEAWAT, show that our parallelization 3D-VD-FT modeling is now feasible wide range hydrogeologists, since a) speedups two orders magnitude can be obtained as illustrated this paper, b) requirements far exceeding single machine memory.

Three-dimensional model for multi-component reactive transport with variable density groundwater flow
PHWAT is a new model that couples a geochemical reaction model (PHREEQC-2) with a density-dependent groundwater flow and solute transport model (SEAWAT) using the split-operator approach. PHWAT was developed to simulate multi-component reactive transport in variable density groundwater flow. Fluid density in PHWAT depends not on only the concentration of a single species as in SEAWAT, but also ...
متن کاملThe effects of cut-off walls on repulsing saltwater based on modeling of density-driven groundwater flow and salt transport
Abstract: A two-dimensional fully implicit finite difference model, which can be easily extended to three dimensions, is developed to study the effect of cut-off walls on saltwater intrusion into the aquifers. This model consists of a coupled system of two nonlinear partial differential equations which describe unsteady density-driven groundwater flow and solute transport. The numerica...
متن کاملModflow/mt3dms-based Simulation of Variable- Density Groundwater Flow with Simultaneous Heat and Solute Transport
SEAWAT is a finite-difference computer code designed to simulate coupled variabledensity ground water flow and solute transport. This paper describes a new version of SEAWAT that adds the ability to simultaneously model energy and solute transport. This is necessary for simulating the transport of heat and salinity in coastal aquifers for example. This work extends the equation of state for flu...
متن کاملParallel Transport Frame in 4 -dimensional Euclidean Space
In this work, we give parallel transport frame of a curve and we introduce the relations between the frame and Frenet frame of the curve in 4-dimensional Euclidean space. The relation which is well known in Euclidean 3-space is generalized for the rst time in 4-dimensional Euclidean space. Then we obtain the condition for spherical curves using the parallel transport frame of them. The conditi...
متن کاملThree-dimensional Variable-density Flow Simulation of a Coastal Aquifer in Southern Oahu, Hawaii, Usa
The main population centre of the volcanic Hawaiian-island chain in the north-central Pacific Ocean is on the island of Oahu (population about 900,000) (Figure 1). Oahu depends on ground water, which is mainly produced from coastal aquifers, for its potable-water supply. Oahu has high rainfall, highly permeable aquifers, and a coastal confining layer that results in high heads at the coast and ...
